DAMNIT!! (long rant)

ok, so I am just days from being able to legally import a car from Japan, all I needed was conformation that the RI in Michigan could bring the car through the port (if they couldn't no biggie, i could) and do the modifications to legalize it (should be easy according to the nhtsa :rolleyes:). So I contact the RI to see if they could do the modifications necessary. The lady Terry told me that a car from Japan is no big deal, but she needed some info just to check, sounds correct so far... She asked for the usual stuff: year, make model of the car and the VIN. I told her what she needed to know but told her the car doesn't have a VIN yet, as I was not going to pay the money to get one if I couldn't find an RI to get it in. she says thats ok, everything else checks out. cool! Her last question: is it RHD or LHD? I tell her RHD...
The next day I get a message from her, she says her contact at the DOT in washington said that if it was LHD there would be no problems and that RHD cars are not allowed into the states period. this is where i raise the BS flag...
According to the highway and traffic safety admin, RHD cars are indeed legal IF a RI petitions that the car is "substantially similar" to a US model, which it is... Or if i can prove that the RHD car passes US safety standards, by getting a letter stating so by the manufacturer. This is a job I believed the RI was supposed to do, because i sure as hell dont think I can get that damn letter.:msnmad:
So I sent Terry all of this info (that i got from the DOT) regarding RHD importation. and am now waiting for a reply. I am so close!!! this is

yeah, no CRX for me yet, the last one i ordered went down the shitter. So instead i'm getting a S13 Silvia K's with an SR20. I thought it would be a better investment for the time being
