Never had this happen before!

Post by Dabeastwthn »

I was sitiing at a stoplight on Hwy K and heard a loud ass bang, like something hit the bottom of the car, then it starts squealing like crazy! :Eyecrazy: Turns out the harmonic balancer just shot off the motor, bounced off the road and hit the bottom of the car! So Saturdays get together at pick n pull, that I missed, I ended up there today anyway!

Nah...didn't do anything I can see. The squealing was the timing belt rubbing the plastic cover. Just sucked it was a "stealer" item only. I found the one Civic in the yard that actually had a dang motor in it and then fought for an hour to get the thing off! It was smashed on the drivers side so it was a hella tight squeeze to get to the bolt! But the cars running good again with no probs. :drive: It probably wasn't torqued down right or may have just vibrated off (freak of nature)! Now it's torqued down and locktighted!

C'mon now,....I didn't mention any names! :biggrinangelA: Hell I can't talk. I put new wheels on my old Prelude and forgot to double check the lugs. Left the house, made it down the road about a mile and the whole car started shaking apart! I missed tightening 3 dang lugs on the passenger front wheel!

Well, I never messed with the crank pulley or harmonic balancer. Its kind of wired that it just fell off. The last time that it could have been touched is when the timing belt was done around 127,000 miles by the 2nd owner.
