as much as i like working on cars sometimes they just freaking suck, and here is tonights example

Soundqjr's new eg6 HB, motor is 75%of the way ready to come out and whats stopping us is a freaking axle nut .. bunch of bs if you ask me. So far we have broken.
1-1/2 crafstman ratchet
1-1/2 2 1/2ft breaker bar
1- pipe extension
4- knuckles

so looks like i am going to have to pull the whole fron knuckle and axl out as one piece and take it to work and hit it with the impact and hope it comes apart that way.

bla WTFever

i just swapped both my spindles when i couldnt get my axle nuts off, more than likely the axles not coming out too easily either. did you try heating it up?

Did you try an impact? If you need one I have on and a small enough compressor to lug it over there in the chick car. PM me if you need it

I don't know if this is any help, here are a few things that have worked for me.
Option 1:
1. Spray liberal amounts of pb blaster or wd 40
2. Long and sturdy (that's the way she likes 'em) 1/2 non ratcheting ratchet (can't remember correct term,, its a ratchet with a 1/2 coupler that can flip to each side with no ratcheting action)
3. Large pipe, longer the better, 4ft+ that will fit over handle.
4. Constant pressure doesn't break things loose, use bursts of pressure on the bar to break loose nut.

Option 2:
If you don't need to re-use the axle nut, its a combo of the first one.
1. Spray liberal amounts of pb blaster or wd.
2. Have a large quality chisel (big enough to fit height of nut)
3. A 40oz or larger hammer
4. Good hand eye coordination!
5. Hammer chisel in the middle of nut's flat area, till it starts to split nut. Be sure not to hammer to far, don't want to mess up the axle threads.
6. By now there should be a good gouge in the nut, almost like it's about to split, hammer on socket and use steps of option 1.
7. If it still is not moving, start splitting the the opposite side of first indentation.

Hope that could have been any help.

Did ya try with the car on the ground? I always do it that way & hardly ever have problems. Impact never works for the ones stuck on, you need a quick hit to spin it. I just throw on a breaker bar, jump in the air & land on it & booyah.

Thats what broke the ratchets and breakerbars. It was on the ground and everything.

Well damn. I'd either heat it & try or just cut it.
