On preludeonline.com, this guy was talking about putting a V6 into a 5th gen prelude. There was quite a discussion about it, and quite a bit of ridicule dealt to the person who started the post.
So Cory (civisi) posted a video of an eg with a V6 swap from youtube and they said that the car would not even be fast, even with a 260 whp motor in it because of weight distribution and it being a FWD car.
That is what started this..
Just thought I'd let you know, mike, that I am showing your car off to my Prelude friends that think there is no way you can have a car that is fast and hooks up because of FWD.jdm97ludegirl;2954724 wrote:Do you all not try to build your cars? Do you not have respect for people that turbo their hondas? You are basically saying that a car cannot hook up with that much power, correct? Just because it is front wheel drive?
If you have good suspension set up, a good spring rate, and good front tires I am sure you can hook up.
For instance, my friend Mike has a single cam eg hatch that is turbo'd with approximately 400 whp. He hooks up fine because he has a great suspension setup and runs slick on the front at the track.
But you are saying that his car would not be able to handle this power because it is FWD. Am I correct?
He runs a mid 10 second at the 1/4 mile, no nos or anything. And his car takes off fine, because of his suspension, tires, and knowing how to drive a FWD car.
What can a RWD car do with the same power ratio? On a bigger car you will have more power, but just because it's RWD it's going to hook up automatically?

And, no, I'm not saying that a fwd car can't hook w/ high horsepower. I'm saying that w/o a serious amount of suspension tuning and *at least* a good set of cheater slicks, a fwd car is going to spin in one place while an equally (or slightly less) powerful RWD car walks away from it. My truck would walk away from any fwd car of similar power........and that's with a live rear axle and no traction control of any kind.
Please provide a timeslip, setup, and pics. Then I'll make my judgement.
You need to learn at least a little bit about weight distribution.

A stock 5th gen sh at 200 hp would be 2882 lbs
Versus a 5th gen 05-09 base mustang at 210 hp to 3450 lbs
Approximately the same horsepower and weight, slightly heavier on the Mustang.
This would be a pretty even race though, even though one is FWD and one is RWD. Because of a stiffer spring rate, the Prelude would not be as sluggish as the Mustang may be (because of it being the base model).
What did your truck run?
