I screwed over BudgetCRX.. true story...long

Post by N2HIFI »

Well here is the deal since i was stated that everybody thinks i screwed over jake i want to see what everybody really thinks about how much of a dick i am.

The Deal:

I traded a ZC motor and tranny Fully running with EVERYTHING (motor, clutch, tranny, working dizzy, alt, starter etc EVERYTHING
0 this motor was in my daily driver and ran perfect no codes NOTHING it has one oil leak issue that i diagnosed as a leakey rear main seal because the clutch would slip under heavy acceleration but i was a new clutch out of my crx with less then 2000miles on it) I drove the car into my garage and pulled the motor and then traded it directly to jake. I also provided good axles and left the engine harness on the motor to help in his swap, i also asked if he would like to USE my DC sports header untill he turboed it or i sold it (header, axles, and wiring not included in the deal).

I was to recive in exchange what i thought was a complete B16 motor ONLY with a broken TPS sensor.

What i really got was a motor that had been in storage for 2+years (which i knew about not a issue) without the following clutch, usable flywheel starter, alt, or wiring harness. plus the motor had a 1/4 of sludge and filth in the intake manifold, on top of the pistons and had crystalized antifreeze throught the entire block, basically the motor was ROUGH low miles or not it was in bad shape and would require ALOT of refreshing to be a solid motor.

Well this was a issue i now had to come up with a clutch, flywheel, starter, alt plugs, gaskets (had to replace them ALL)TPS sensor de-sludge the entire motor (3 toothbrushes and a case of brake clean) and figure out a wiring harness. Well i got some help and scored a starter (thanks deetz and nismotak) i used my shops autozone account and ordered a OEM clutch and flywheel, all new gaskets, plugs, oil, fluids (i had a tps from my other b16 manifold).
(cost for these parts 450.00)

Ok got the motor all setup and ready to go ( i already had a b16 tranny and mounts, ecu, linkage to do the swap ) so we slid the motor in bolted it up and ready to go. At this point the b16 harness i though i would be able to use would not work with my car so i called jake to see if they used my harness from my car and they said no so i asked if i could have it back (since it was mine anyways not included in the trade and its for my car not his) also at this point i asked if i could also asked if i could get the atl back from the ZC since it was brand new and i just put it on the car, and since his car was a dseries his alt off his old motor could be reused on the zc so that way everybody had a alt and i wouldnt have to buy a new one since one did not come with the b16 the zc did not come with one now (even trade).

Problem; the dseries alt would not work (wouldnt bolt up) on the b16 so i had to buy a new one now (even more money out of my pocket) and had to use the zc once as a core to save myself 60.00. I also had asked to get my header back at this time but when jake came to get the axels (which i gave him for free ) he failed to bring me the header which i had sold and the guy was comming to get on sunday (well sunday comes and no header because jake went out of town without deliver in the header, he was able to come get the axles from me for free but could not return something i was loaning him and had not givin him, so luckly i was able to have sombody else go get it for me because i dont think i would have gotten it back at all)
(cost for these parts 145.00)

so back to the point, the motor is now installed i made my own custom b16 harness out of the zc,b16 and various other harnesses i had laying around, well i get it all wired up and crank it over for the first time and what happens on the third crank the timing belt snaps, LUCKILY it did not hit anything otherwize i would have been ALL assed out and i am sure nobody would have done anything about it (even though this was a "freaking brand new motor")

well the next day i went out and ordered a new timing belt and water pump , special ordered them so i could have them that day. Deetz and nizmotak came by my work and picked up the parts and went to the house to do the belt for me that way we could start it up when i got home from work (chris and tony rock) well i get a call about a hour later telling me that the crank pully is off but the belt tensioner is bad its seized up and wont turn. So i call around like mad at 5 o'clock trying to find one and i got luck and found one at a local parts store but had to pay out the ass for it 68.00 for it with no spring o'well just reused the old one it was still good. Go home install the tensioner, water pump and new belt line it all up and slam it backtogether. Well we cranked on it for a bit but it wouldn't start well i had a ground off in the harness so i fixed that then went to crank on it again but the battery was dead and i di not have a charger so i had to wait till tommorrow and bring home the one from work.
(cost for these parts 175.00)

well i bring the charger home and charge the bettery and crank it over well after a cpl cranks it fires up and starts running, well i changed a cpl things on the wiring and it idles good and started on the first crank everytime. Well it looks like i am in the clear it runs and after a short test drive it drives normal. Still have to get the exhaust fixed cause it was 4inch short from my header to the exhaust on the car.
(cost for these parts 50.00)

well next day i get the exhaust fixed on the car and as i am driving it to the shop it starts running like shit and wont hardly run, well i do some troubleshooting and come to find out the dizzy is bad, bearing seized up from sitting for so long. So now i have to buy a new dizzy, order a dizzy, cap, rotor, new wires install everything and the car fires right up and runs great problem fixed.
(cost of these parts 275.00)

well i drive the car for 2 days and everything seems good vtec still does not work i think the vtec solinoid is bad but i decide to drive the car to my familys for xmas eve. Well we get about 20 miles from my house and the car starts to overheat, wtf well i check the fluid and everything is good and i have heat and the fans work but the car is running hot, well i decide its the thermostat, well shit no choice but to milk it home to fix it and miss my family event. Get it home let it cool off while i run to get parts in the girls car. New thermostat, gasket, coolant swap ou the bad one and everything is back to normal ok and the motor is not hurt thankfully.
(cost of these parts 30.00)

well here it is now the car has offically been running for 4 days 2 days with no issues but have found out the vtec solinoid is bad and has to be replaced luckly i have a spare otherwise i would be out even more money.

well over the past few days it has come to my attention that the person whi gave my running zc swap to is feeling like he got screwed because i asked for items back that i gave him initial because i did not think i would need them These are not items originally discussed in the swap these are not items i said i would include i just out of being a good guy figured hell if they make his swap go easier take them. Sue me for needing the parts back to get my car running since they were mine in the first point and since i was not givin replacment items with the motor i recived. I would not have even cared about anyof this if jake would not be talking shit about me behind my back, i had a problem so i pm'd him and adressed the problem he did not he hid behind other people and let them talk for him. Jake also said that i got a better deal because he traded me a "freaking brand new b16" for my worn out zc motor and worn out parts. Well if the motor was so worn out then why was it a perfectly good running swap when i gave it up, it was not a new motor no it had probley 70,000 miles on it but did not burn anyoil and only had one problem the rear main seal was bad and i told him that a month before he got the motor, and if it was so worn out then why did he not have to replace any parts on it to install it in the car?

It does not matter what i took back or what i did or did not give in the trade the truth is he got a running motor that need very little work to be installed and to get running correctly, where as the motor i got in the deal took me over $1000.00 in parts (not counting labor) just to get the motor running (not counting the fact that i had the tranny and the rest of the swap parts).

The fact that jake is even arguing this fact is complete bs and childish, the fact that i did not tell him to come get his POS motor back and give me my running motor back showes waht kind of person i am and the fact that i did what i could to make his swap easier for him also showes what type of person i am and for him to act like he is .. well i will let you decide that one.

Oh last one bit of info I had told jake that when i got a second running car i would pull the motor out of the hatch to trade to him, well getting the 240sx running was going alot slower then i thought so it took longer to get him the motor then i originally told him but i signed no agreemen, i bound no contract, i paid him no cash or anything that stated i would pull my motor out of my perfectly running car just so he could have it. BUT 2 weeks ago jake calls me and tells me he needed the motor and if he could get it from me so he could fix his DD even though he had another car to drive he needed to fix his DD asap, I being the person i am dropped everything i was doing and pulled the motor out of my ONLY running car at the time just to get him the motor because he needed it, i could have said well sorry your sol but no i bent over backwards to hook him up and this is the BS i get for all my troubles, this is the High school drama BS i left behind 15 years ago.

So you decide if a am a dick or not i dont care eitherway i just want people to know what kind of person jake can be since he wants to play sides.

peace chris

wow chris, thats a loooong story.

i can say that i witnessed part of what you had to go through as you and deetz were gone for like 2 hours going all over the place to get parts. and i even grabbed the order for the dizzy for you guys too :D only to have the belt snap after starting the car boooooooo:( good thing deetz caught that cuz that motor could be toast right now. i know you're upset about not getting your parts that you loaned someone back when you needed them most. hell, i'd be pissed too. you put in sooooo much time into getting that motor started when it should have only taken half the time, if that. its amazing how a $100 project turns into $1000+.

Chris, I know you well enough that you wouldn't dick over someone. But I also must say that when selling/trading such large and complex items (price, not size) you need to have a written contract that explains the grounds of the transaction, parts and/or money inlcuded and have both parties print, sign and date the document.

sympathy? we shoulda takin back the zc swap and threw this fucking motor through your windshield, i have a feeling you knew what condition this motor was in, and i think your just jealous now because chris took the right steps in getting it installed. yea it took about a week longer then yours did to fire up, but you didnt haveta deal with dryrotted parts, inches and i mean INCHES of sludge built up in the motor because someone left oil in it. from my experiences with 4 cylinders id say this motor layed on its side in this shed you had it in, so if i were you, i wouldnt bitch too much about the deal ya got, you didnt haveta spend an extra 1000+ dollars to install your motor did ya? yoursa was basically a drop in and go deal,

I'm the shady one? He knew what he was getting, I obviously had no clue. when I first made the deal I warned him that it may be difficult to get started since there was oil on the top of the pistoons. Chris told me he didn't care since he was taking the head off anyway...

as you can seee in the picture it was vertical the whole time, and the only things i touched were the spark plugs and the exhaust ports. From the thread you can also see that i was selling just a longblock (which excludes accessories!)

now don't blame me for having gunk in the intake or whatever, if it was there I had no idea, I bought the engine just the way i sold it, taped up and everything.

Did Jake know the parts were bad? Did he actually run the engine before he sold it?
