serious debate: why stl lacks honda scene

Post by 90CivicEx »

Honestly it's not just St. Louis lacking the scene of good reputable import cars, like others have said with being that there isnt many shops knowing what they are doing nor do kids these days feel like learning about what there about to do with there vehicle. Some think body kit, nice lights few bolt ons will get them in the fast and the furious scene of running in the 13's and for some that choose the right displacement have met that.

I honestly think its not just tuners around in the area but the people that see alot of the kids that don't know what there talking about and the ones that do driving around and try to imitate what they have built or outdo the flash in a way. Some don't like to ask questions being that alot of people that know what there talkin about like to be mean and pretty much lead them astray of trying to inquire knowledge on somethings like turbo/nitrous/superchargeing/lowering/tires things of the sort that mean a win or a god show at least.

Seriously theres 3 cars exactly like mine now in my area and JTDriver5 can tell ya when they get pulled over for stupidity by the cops and when they get pulled over by cars I've raced and beat they try to act like it was there car then they go out lose and give me a bad name on the street and around town. Now I've met tons of people on stlsr and stlhondas and I honeslty can tell who knows what there talkin about and who don't or the people that have a good basic knowledge that want to learn more.

If you come to my side of the river, which alot have for cruise's/get togethers. All have seen that every driver around here owns a mustang/camaro/firebird/transam/ anything with like someone else said big displacement.

So what exactly pertains to rice in your guys opinion's? cause in mine its all show no go. I like some visual effects possibly a mild almost stock spoiler with a lip and tinted windows and a nice set of performance wheels with good meaty tires that will hook, but under the hood I want nothing more then built to the top.

The way you guys are talking, honda scene translates into "drag racing hondas." If that's the case, I hope there never is a honda scene in St. Louis. What I see more from this board is a gathering of people in an effort to spread appreciation and provide a tool/resource for gathering information and obtaining parts/cars. Aside from a couple individuals in the SWMO area, this is where I will come first for advice, parts, or just to talk about hondas. Springfield is home to a couple fast hondas, but I think that comes from the fact that Springfield has a much more concentrated enthusiast population that is focused on drag racing. 4-5 years ago, everyone and their second cousin down there was driving a turbo'd/sprayed prelude. Since then, they've moved on to bigger projects in search of faster timeslips (haha, well, except for a couple).

To sum it all up, I like where this "scene" is going and wouldn't sacrifice some good times/meets for a couple 10 second civics (from observation, they're unreliable as hell and just draw more negative attention).

i could do mine on scca autocross, and drag racing if i wanted too, i make myself part of the scene, whether its with domestics, or foreign cars, ive gained a lot of respect just by not pulling up like a bat out of hell or doin burnouts in front of people and shit

It's alot more respectable to keep it calm, seems like when ya try to show a little of what ya have from doing burnouts or something the cops come and then ya get kicked out. Then everyones pissed at you for it, we have plenty of people down here that can't keep there foot out the gas when pulling in the lot.

You guys have a nice discussion going on here. I have often pondered this and have yet to come up with a good reason why we lack a credible Honda "scene." Is it a lack of shop support, and tuner support here? It seems the major shop in St. Louis is focused more on drifting and Nissans then anything else. But you can not hardly blame them. Their clientele dictates what they sell, so I think blamming it on a shop is not fare nor does it really hold any merit. I think there is no one to blame but ourselves. There are some very nice and very clean honda's here in the Lou, but they are few and far between. Chicago has alot of nice cars, look at the Milwaukee thread on Honda-Tech, it is like 200 pages long! Nashville has a great meet every year with some sick, clean, fast cars. Just search for the pics, they speak for themselves. What are we doing that they aren't? Well, the obvious is, we are not building worthy cars. I am as much to blame for this as anyone, but as I am quickly approaching 30, Married with a 5 year old, I have other things going on right now. The people I know that do have nice cars don't post here. There is a certain stigma that comes from any off shot of STLSR, and the people on this site are going to have to up the ante and raise the bar if they want to break out of that stereo type.
