serious debate: why stl lacks honda scene
i think its because of the lack of good tuners and shops that actually know what the hell they are doing.

This is quite true. St. Louis is also somewhat of an "older community" when it comes to building cars, lot more country folk that are all about domestic names and big displacement.stolle;5794 wrote:i think its because of the lack of good tuners and shops that actually know what the hell they are doing.
There's also not many good places to meet up without getting run off.

Yep....go to a slick tire night at gateway and you will be lucky to see any import out there.JonDubya;5802 wrote:This is quite true. St. Louis is also somewhat of an "older community" when it comes to building cars, lot more country folk that are all about domestic names and big displacement.
It really isn't just the hondas....imports in general around here seem lacking. I think hondas here get a bad name because the number of people that know what they're doing is greatly outnumbered by the people that don't have a clue / halfass it.

serious debate: why stl lacks honda scene
(I started this after Stolle's post)
I think St. Louis (and the midest in general) is still a stronghold for domestic muscle, most people learn about cars from their dads or family memebers, who all grew up with domestics... it can't help but wear off.
The only reason I ended up with a honda (my 87 accord) as a first car was because the '86 Mustang that I was trying to pick up fell through.
I've taught myself everything I know about cars, neither of my parents are car people (especially my dad) so I wasn't necessarily predisposed to either domestics or imports.
To expand on Stolle's suggestion, the lack of shops and tuners in St. Louis means that people have to do all the work themselves or go out of town to have it done well. The technology of newer cars is a lot 'harder' to teach yourself than the older technology, so its much easier to buy/build a car that doesn't need to be taken out of town to tune. I think everyone knows someone who is good at tuning a carburator, so an older muscle car (about the same price as a relatively newer import) is a much more viable option around here...
Look at Matt Koenig (formerly 'Intercooled' on STLSR, now "LOSS4U") he had one of the quickest WRX's in the area, tones of work into it, but he jumped ship for an Fbody, and now drives a vette. The area still shows preference for domestics. It's kind of a 'chicken or the egg' scenario, the scene won't grow, shops won't open, and we won't have nice hondas until the area gains respect for hondas; but to do that, there have to be more nice hondas.

we need to get the "fast hondas" (by fast i mean low 13's or 12's) to gateway on a regular basis with big stlhondas.com stickers on em, rep up the site and spread the word. you know all the ricers or misinformed honda/acura owners will come over and start asking questions. i think there is enough people on here with enough knowledge and information to lead people in the right direction when building a fast honda. we need to start building a database or a thread strictly dedicated in listing tuners, decent machine shops etc...

If you want to bring people here, you'll also want to spruce up the design and content of the site BEFORE advertising.stolle;5826 wrote:we need to get the "fast hondas" (by fast i mean low 13's or 12's) to gateway on a regular basis with big stlhondas.com stickers on em, rep up the site and spread the word. you know all the ricers or misinformed honda/acura owners will come over and start asking questions. i think there is enough people on here with enough knowledge and information to lead people in the right direction when building a fast honda. we need to start building a database or a thread strictly dedicated in listing tuners, decent machine shops etc...

Honestly in St. Louis there are not a lot of people that know enough about hondas, and a lot of people are uneducated in the subject and think that altezzas, neons, and wings are cool.
