Thinkin about buyin an '04 WRX

Post by STLracerX »

I posted this on STLSR but I know there's a good few of you that don't really get on there. Anyways, here's what I posted there...

I'm thinkin about buyin an 04 WRX that has 53k miles on it. Only thing is, it won't pass emissions. Do Subaru's usually have issues with this? I'm completely illiterate when it comes to Subaru's so please forgive my ignorance. The car is pretty much stock, only has the exhaust done and the windows tinted. The dealership selling it is going to let me know first thing tomorrow morning what may need to be done to it to pass. Any thoughts or things I should look at tomorrow before I consider buying it? I've never owned an all-wheel drive car, let alone a turbo. Thanks IA

i had a friend who worked at subaru, he said they'd get WRXs in all day long with tranny problems.
emissions shouldn't be that hard, its an obd2 car, so the computer should tell you exactly what the car needs in order to pass :dunno:

Car is fun to drive. As long as your not hard on it, I don't think the tranny will be an issue. Paint sucks though. It's damn near razor thin.

That's all I seem to hear is their tranny's suck. I've blown a honda tranny before and I'm not fond of my K Series tranny that I have now.

I want a turbo though. I don't want to dick with putting together a kit. I'd rather just get a stock turbo car. I've driven the GTi, and I wasn't impressed, Mazda speeds just seem flimsy to me, wrx's tranny's tend to go out, evo8's, you can't find 'em anywhere. Maybe it's a sign. I just shouldn't drive.

Paint sucks, and the tranny will last just as long as you take care of it.

Never had a problem with my tranny when I had my old wrx.
