weird click/popping noise

Post by IshbOO »

I just installed New lower ball joints, Upper ball joints with Camber kit, rotors and brake pads. I lower the car down and back up, There is a clicking/popping sound comming from my front left suspension.

I pulled the wheel off, made sure the brake shield wasn't hitting the rotor. I spun the rotor with my hand and there is no sound, I then put the wheel on, spun the wheel with my hand, I do not hear the sound.

The sound is when I accelerate or roll at all, but only when the car is on the ground and spring is under pressure.

This didn't happen before I did the work.

What I think it could be, The used camber bushings I just installed, maybe they are old and played out hahaha. Or also the ball joint where the steering rack connects to the knuckle, since I didn't change it, but had to pop it out, could maybe use a new boot on it too, might try greasing it up to see what happens.

Any suggestions or any ideas? Let me know

Thanks!

took it out for another spin, this time inscreasing speed. Seems to now only make a weird sound when the wheel is almost fully turned, if you straighten it out it seems to quit making the noise,

could it be the axle?

does it click more through-out a turn? i was thinking it could be your cv axle. if it occurs more often during a turn, its more then likely your axle.

thanks for the response.

I guess I'm gonna try a different axle in here. See if it cures the issue. If so guess I'll be looking into ordering some brand new oem ones.

alright changed the axle and nothing really changed.

its again the driver side.

its when i turn right when I hear the noise, If i straighten the wheel or turn left the noise stops.

its not really a clicking noise so much.

Its more like faint squeal, or almost as if somethings hitting the rotor or the shield behind the rotor. but I don't beleive its the brakes grinding. and it only happens when the car is in motion.

If I step on the brake or dont step on the brake, the noise continues.

I checked and bent back the shield it doesnt seem to hit the rotor or anything.

Could it be my brakes? or perhaps the tie rod end? wheel bearing? I just bled the brakes they seem to work fine... My ball joints and axle boots are all in great shape.

I know for a fact the tie rod on the passenger side is good. I just had it replaced not to long ago. the boot on the ball joint on the tie rod end on the driverside is torn, looks like it could be replaced. But wouldnt think it would make that much noise. And it is when I turn my wheel to the right, there for the tie rod is fully extended when the noise occurs.

Guess I'll try replacing that.

been reading some more, seems like other people that have some of these symptoms it ended up being the outer tierod. Sounds pretty easy to do I'll have to do it here today.

you would be surprised with what a little tear on the boot would do. you could loose all the grease from inside the boot and it can get hot really quick, causing wear and tear. there inturn, causing the popping. but seeing that you found the problem this isnt the case. and glad to help man. have fun with the sway bar!
