rear shock bolt problems

Post by CourtesyFlush »

bottom bolt at the fork on the rear shock is twisting, so its loose, but i try and hit it out with a hammer and it wont come out. wtf? HELP PLEASE. anyone with any sort of info would be great....

edit: ive tried putting a shock underneath to releave the pressure but still wont work. I loosened the strut towr nuts and the shock is moving around, so there is NO PRESSURE on the bolt. still wont come

is the bushing twisting with the bolt as you turn it? probably rusted to the bushing like they all are.

Control arm bushing. The bolt is rusted in the sleeve. Cut the bolt out and replace the bushing or the entire control arm.

you could try... uh... not doing the suspension? its a problem on almost all civic/integra rear shock bolts. these guys ARE recommending the best way to do it. If the bushing sleeve is spinning, its junk! even if you do get the bolt out, what are you going to do? put the sleeve back in without any rubber bushing around it? you are at the point where you need to replace either the bushing or control arms anyway, might as well quit working on it and order parts.
I, and several of my friends, don't even recommend beginning full suspension work (especially the first time) on one of these cars without ordering new control arms, or being able to replace the bushings first.
