if youre wanting stopping power, then drum brakes are what you want. if you want brakes to do autocrossing where alot of repeated braking is needed then discs are what you want. but drums will always have more stopping power than discs.

This is true...most of the time people just replace the drums with disks for the looks...cant say i dont blame them....i know someone that has a full integra rear disc swap, if youre interested ill ask him how much he wants for it all...

Please do! I was going to do all 4 at once but, if he has a sweet deal, i may change my plans.

This is very true, and its this exact reason semi's still use drum

Sorry this is a bit late but i hate inaccurate information especially when it is incorrect. Disc brakes provide 25 - 35% more stopping power then rear drum brakes. The reason you see rear drum brakes on moderate non-performanced vehicles is because it is cheaper and don't require top stopping power on moderate vehicles. disc/drum setups are completely adequate for the majority of new cars. If drum brakes gave more stopping power why aren't the fronts placed with drum brakes as well, why aren't high performance vehicles rocking drums? They aren't they are fitted with discs, why because majority of the stopping power is up front and disc brakes dissapate heat faster because they are fully exposed to outside air. Drum brakes hold more heat and when they become hot the stopping power also declines/fades. Back in the day they used Drum brakes on all 4 but after they learned about disc brakes and better stopping power they replaced the front drums with discs.

High performance vehicles DO NOT use drum brakes, if you notice they use Disc brakes on all 4. Semi's have drums because they are cheap. They DO NOT rely soley on their brakes because they will wear them out to quickly especially with all that weight they are trying to stop with. They have to downshift A LOT in order to help them stop faster and not put all that stress on their brakes.

People replace their drums to discs for either stopping power or looks but gain stopping power and didn't realize it. An import mag actually did a stopping test on Drums to Disc brakes and the distance went from 133 feet to 113. Actually it wasn't an import mag it was from tricked out provided from the link i have posted above with the DIY.

All in all if you truly want stopping power Discs are the way to go.
If you want your car to be cheap and fast it wont be reliable... If you want your car to be reliable and cheap it wont be fast... If you want your car to be fast and reliable it wont be cheap...
