changing out inner tie rods

Post by 94civicoupe »

hey, i have a 94 civic coupe and to pass safety i have to replace my inner tie rod on the passenger side, and i've never had to change out one of these because i thought they last a long time, lol, but anyway has anyone changed out one of these? could you give me some advice, will I need a special tool? or will i be able to get the inner rod off with out it, and is the bend washer something to worry about or is it a simple step? thanks

i've done a couple. with the special tool and without it. when i did mine on the civic. i think i got away with using some channel locks to loosen it up. make sure you measure how much threads of the inner tie rod are in the outer tie rod before you remove it. that will some what keep your alignment close until you can get it into the alignment shop.

Yeah, my friend recently did it recently on his 95 coupe. You don't need the special tool. Simply, along with what above poster said, take out the cotter pin, take off the castle nut, hammer the tie-rod out and you can use vise grips for the rest.

no i don't need a picklefork, thanks a lot tho, i was just wondering if the washer thingy on the inner tie rod needed a special tool to take off, or if something like pliers would be able to bend of the indentions, but thanks tho.
