EPROM Programmer question

Post by crxbrad »

This is for you techy guys and those who understand what these devices do and/or have used them.
I would like to get one of these to be able to do some tuning.
I have Hondata S200 on one of my cars and would like to tune it. But need an EPROM Programmer.
So, I got on eBay and looked for one of these.
What I saw was that they are fairly universal? IDK really

I don't know much about these devices.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I don't want to spend $598 on one from Transtronics which is where it directs you from the Hondata website if you click on EPROM Programmer.

EDIT: So, I may have answered my own question. Haha
Let me know if this is incorrect but, as long as it writes to a 27C256 eprom it'll work?

Hondata s200 page shows that you can use moates burn1.....which more than likely means you can use moates burn2....which is only $85.

Ok. Thanks 5thGen
What about cheapys you find on eBay? I found one called a Willem that writes to a 27C256 eprom. It's like $35. I'm not trying to sous cheap. I just wanna know if that would work.
And thanks for the reply.

I don't know anything about that burner.

You could search the forums on pgmfi.org ..... they'll probably have your answer there.

So these EPRON are just chip burners?
I need OSTRICH to do real time tuning?
The chip that I would burn with an EPROM would go on the ecu or in the Hondata box?

Yes, the Willem will work to burn chips but is kinda quirky on erasing and you have to fiddle with jumpers and jump through hoops. NOT for the non GEEK!

You will need an ostrich to do real time tuning and also your S200 has to be setup for datalogging.

The Burn2 works great and is integrated into the S200 software so you can burn the chip just as easy as tuning in real time. When done, the chip goes in the ECU!
The world is full of experts that speak from inexperience!

I had a willem back in the day, and as long as you stuck to one type of chip it wasnt so bad. that is after your hours of work getting it to burn the first time lol
