That's right! So, something else is making my car run rich. ShitBoosted_da;247896 wrote:well if there higher altitude the air would be thiner = less fuel ie leaner in us

ECU upgrade??
I haven't really looked into it. When I first start the car, it idles high for about 5 minutes, then when it gets to normal temp the check engine light comes on. The PO said that it had something to do with the knock sensor. The car still runs the same after the light comes on. The PO also told me that it ran rich, I figured that is why it idles high at start up, even when it's warm out. Will running rich make your oil smell like fuel?

check the codes to see if it is actually a knock sensor code, most likely it is just slightly loose. If you are smelling fuel in the exhaust then you are running rich, any black smoke coming from the exhuast?lagwagon21;248071 wrote:I haven't really looked into it. ive heard similar stories but pertaining to octane not altitude....japan has higher grade fuel than we doim pretty sure our "premium" is less octane than their low grade gas...could be wrong just what ive heardlagwagon21;247861 wrote:So, is it true that the JDM motors will run rich over here because the ecu is programed for Japans higher altitude?

The exhaust doesn't smell like gas. I did an oil change and I could smell it in the old oil.

If the knock sensor is coming up that means and I'm clueless why someone hasn't said it yet but here's the break down.
B16a swap with a p30 ecu the only wiring needing to be done with this swap is pinning for the knock sensor.
B16a swap with say a p28 or p72 won't have any wiring it's all plug play and go.
Hope this helps that you just pull the ecu and make sure the pin somehow didn't get pulled when someone got in the passengers seat or something cause that's the simplest solution.

Also researching and everything the p30 does run pig rich compared to our usdm ecu's.
The fuel, air, and timing are quite different from what others say, Also it's harder to tune a jdm ecu since instead of 28 pin and socket there 30pin or something like that.
