Chipped or Reprogrammed ECU = MO GVIP?

Post by slos13drftr »

Alright, so now that I got my car running, and probably going to start making some money to spend on the car, I'm reading up on LS-VTECs.

Heres my delima...has anyone encountered a problem running a ECU that has been tuned or modified when your car is inspected for emissions using the OBD2 MO-GVIP BS?

I'm not trying to re-register the car, so keep that out of your post.

Right on guys!

no it will fail with a chipped obd1 ecu in there. you could always have a obd2 SI ecu to throw in for emissions though so long as its not throwing a check engine light.
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

well usually only OBD1 ecus are chipped, and only 96' and up cars require the emissions test. the JUN OBD2 ecu i had was still a JDM ECU so it didnt give any power to the OBD2 Port for testing, reading codes, etc. but regardless i think if you have a chipped OBD2 ecu at all you will fail emissions.

and if you do get it running with an OBD2 ecu and no CEL make sure you drive it a pretty good distance before getting it tested to reset the rediness monitors
