OBD1 engine in OBD2 car

Post by IshbOO »

ALright I picked up a 1997 Integra (OBD2). I installed a 1995 LS engine in it (OBD1) with the OBD1 ECU. I bought a OBD2a to OBD1 ecu harness so the ecu would hook straight up.

The engine runs great!, i bring it to inspection.

Passes on everything but emissions for OBD inspection.

Of course, when they hook up the OBD2 reader thing to that plug, its not reading anything at all from that ecu.

How do I get my car to pass emissions? He was telling me he could maybe flash the ecu? I dunno anything about this. Can anyone give me a tip on a way to pass emissions with this setup?

Yea take out the obd1 ecu and jumper plug the obd2 ecu In fix any codes and then take it back. It's really only obd1 because of the ecu

THanks man we are trying to figure this out like crazy. but uuhh the car itself is a GSR, the engine is an LS, could I hook up the OBD2 GSR ECU? or would I need an ECU from a 96-99 LS?

Wanting to try to avoid changing all parts to obd2. lol ima go outside and try it i guess.

You will need a ls ecu because the gsr ecu will be looking for vtec solinoid and will throw a code. Also obd2 cars require 2 O2 sensors so make sure you have them installed pluged in

awsome sweet! you just saved our mistake big :)

I went ahead and started it with the GSR ecu, runs great but yes throwing codes for vtec. awsome man! thanks looks like we gotta get a new ecu, and also uhmm the engine harness is obd1... where does the second O2 sensor plug into? do I have to run wire myself? or is there a plug on the chassis harness somewhere? in that hole above the cat? lol ill check.

what...? this is my setup. the engine harness stays on the engine(OBD1), disconnects at shock tower. the rest of the harness in the chassis(OBD2) plugs to ecu. These are backwards compatible.

oh my bad. i was thinking it was like my civic where the engine harness comes in through the firewall and plugs directly into the ecu. i forgot they were different my bad
