Vtec oil pressure switch...

Post by HondasX2 »

I pulled code 22 from my obd1 p28. Its an itr motor and after looking it up I found its for my vtec oil pressure switch. It comes on only when I get on it a stays on till the car is turned off...please let me in on any useful knowledge! Could it cause any major damage?

Thanks, Andy

Vtec oil pressure switch...

well it could be a few things but the common ones are

-low oil
-clogged vtec solenoid filter

vtec is probley NOT engaging .. unless your ecu is chipped to not need to rely on the pressure switch to read the correctly for vtec to engage.

but check your oil first make sure its correct and if that is not the problem then you will need to go to honda and order a new vtec pressure switch gasket and replace it

you will need #12 and #14 replace both while its off the car

Do you still have an ITR VTEC solenoid on the head? The one that doesn't have a VTEC oil pressure switch?

If you are smart enough to check your oil and can tell if VTEC is engaging or not, you can simply take the VTEC pressure switch wire and tap it into the vtec solenoid wire. Everything is happy that way. Japanese Engines don't even have it.

no.

theres a dent in your oil pan.

he said it only comes on when he gets on it and hits vtec. nothing wrong with the switch. if it was bad the cel would come on when you start the car. and the screen never gets clogged. thats what a oil filter is for and anyways youd have dump handfulls of dirt down the engine to clog that.

trust me, check the bottom of your oil pan.

or better yet put a oil pressure gauge on it and i can almost guarantee you are running some low pressure. so no do not bypass the switch because thats not going to fix your low oil pressure.

And thats what MY problem is.. big dent in oil pan.. but no check engine light in VTEC.. id shit. Check your oil pan for dents.. then do everything else.
