What RPM's does VTEC engage on a K20Z2? I reved my motor to about 6k and didn't hear VTEC-is it quiet?
My VTEC engagement on my H22A is 5k and that is LOUD!

vtec only engages on one of the cams, and it is throttle sensitive.. only activates at a certain percentage of throttle... cant remember exactly the percentage...

the difference between i-VTEC and VTEC is that i-VTEC has a really smooth crossover so its not going to be as noticeable as the regular VTEC crossover that your used to hearing in the B or H series. The K series motors have roller rockers added to their valvetrain and just like stated before, the intake cam only has two lobes, one small and one large, and there is no VTEC on the exhaust side i believe. so in essence its supposed to have the smooth transitional crossover of a D series but perform just like a B. The K series motors are the only motors that have the best of both the D and B series worlds! :w00t2:RSXSLVR79;68929 wrote:What RPM's does VTEC engage on a K20Z2? and you say you "revved your motor to 6k and didn't hear it." If you are lets say sitting at a light and you rev your motor to lets say 6500 rpms, you will not hear a crossover. the car must be under load in order for it to actually work.
hoped this help Eric.

ok, if its an k20a2 then you have vtec on both cams and if you have a k20a3 (base rsx or si) then you only have it on your intake cam. is your rsx stock, if so then just get i/e and you will hear it just fine but either way you should still hear it.

nope you wont hear it because its designs not to be heard, also unless you have a intake you wont hear it because the stock airbox is designed to silence intake noise (where you mainly hear vtec from)
