Which ECU, o2 sensor needed???

Post by B16aRS »

I have a P72 GSR and a P30 ecu. I have a B16a engine (JDM one). I use the OBD1 ECU and the car was running like shit. I hooked up the OBD2 ECU cause its emissions time and my car ran like a champ. With the OBD1 ecu (P30) my car would not pull in 3rd gear. It would bog then start to slowly accelerate. (no torque). I use the OBD2 ecu (P72) and my car pull in every gear including 5th. I put an OBX high flow cat in and my exhaust sounds real hollow in VTEC. So will my car run like shit with a OBD2 ECU and 1 o2 sensor? I realize my check engine light will be on. Please help quick im going to test and tune tomorrow and i dont want to be a hollow ricer... LOL

Hmmm whats the year of the car, all a o2 is doing is reading if the cars lean or stoch. Usually when one o2 isn't working/plugged in it just dumps a tad more fuel to try and correct the problem.

the P30 and the P72 have different timeing/fuel/air values which is why your car is acting a fool. We had the same problem in Chris' "DC2Whore" it would bog all stupid till about 5k rpm's then start pulling.

Me and Chris was talking about this one night, we searched and found out theres one extra wire on the obd-2 dizzy plug. WTF is that extra wire about cause everywhere I searched it never displayed it for anything, good call on this too cause I didn't think anything about that.

make sure your obd1 ecu is for a manual tranny car. I just had to replace an ecu i got off H-T, that was sold to me for my b18 for a "manual" car....it was acting all kinds of funky. replaced it with an ecu that was from a known manual car, and it runs like a champ. oddly enough there were no transmission codes from the auto car ecu.

Thats a good idea but my vtec works. Im pretty sure they dont make a b16 OBD1 auto ECU with Vtec.

what ok first off you can make a b16 an auto or manual... its not that hard. second you can make a ecu do what u want (to a certin exstent). i have seen auto gsr's so im pretty sure you can get an auto b16.. and vtec comes with the head with out it it would be a b18a or b (rs or ls motor)
You can talk shit all you want! eventually noone will care about your input. :yo:

Stock gsr auto? Nah. I'm pretty sure he was meaning stock...of course anything can be done and changed to an "extent."
