dyno tuning...

Post by 2dot4 »

Like I said - I'm doing what I can to get the turbo running correctly - I turbod the car back in may, working a part time job for $7/hour...I didn't have the money to get this done back then. Now I work 50 hours a week for $9/hour, so I can afford the things I should have done a long time ago - I realize I'm way too fucking overdue on this shit, but now I'm rushing my ass off trying to do it all at once.

Stock exhaust on a tC is 2.25" diameter. It flows fairly well...plus that's a power mod - I'm not worried about adding more power until I get the fuel mapping done. So relax - it's all coming. I admit I rushed a little by slapping a turbo on it before I had to money to do everything else, but thats what I'm doing now.

Also, like I said before - scions are so different from Hondas - what may be required when boosting a Honda isn't necessarily mandatory for a scion. Your stock 1 5/8" exhaust doesn't flow at all....my 2.25" exhaust flows fine. You don't have a MAF system to adjust fuel mapping for you to a certain extent, I do and it works fine on low boost (fine meaning no risk of serious damage). They're different cars - I know enough about my car to keep from breaking shit...I'm not doing any serious damage by not running a tune - the worst that can happen is a fouled spark plug or o2 sensor. the MAF system will dump fuel into the engine to prevent a lean mixture - and my injectors peak at 88% duty cycle, so there's plenty of fuel to be given across the entire powerband, and while I may have "lean spots," my ECU prevents anything dangerous from happening...How do you think I've had the car running fine on the same boost for 7 months? Race after race, and dyno after dyno - nothing has broken or failed or anything....all without a tune, and with stock exhaust. I know my car as well as your know yours. So just because I'm not modding my tC how you'd mod a Honda, it doesn't mean I'm doing it wrong.

scion or not (who cares?), he seems to grasp what he needs to do, and better than a lot of people here.

And nothing is wrong with tuning with a budget....scions probably don't have near the options that our hondas have.

as far as tuning hardware, our only piggyback options are e-manage, e-manage ultimate, unichip, and AEM f/i c.

Our only standalone option (that I know of) is the Hydra unit - $1700+

thank you, 5thgen.

Just to be fair, I do most of the tuning at steady state with the eddy current, then move on to WOT pulls to do the upper RPM's and Vtec crossover. I believe Adrenaline has an inertia only dyno that cannot be held at any rpm so more pulls would be required.

I have been tuning Hondas for 7 years now. My allmotor K series makes well over 300hp on E85, we have an s2000 that is now almost a 2.3L and turbo making 450hp on 93oct and 14psi (well be on 25-30 psi and E85 by spring), our SFWD civic makes a bit over 600hp, and most of our stock B series setups make around 300hp on 10psi (t3t4). I dont just tune WOT, I tune the whole maps top to bottom.
