need help with a cel light

the cel light keeps on coming on in my car. its off and on and when it is on the car is in limp mode. im not really worried about that. the problem i have is checking codes. i have an obd2 car with an obd2 motor with a chopped obd2 harness that has a conversion harness to run an obd1 chipped p28. this rules out any kind for plug in code reader. there is alwaya the classic paperclip method, but that doesnt work for some reason with the neptune ecu. when i have my laptop pluged in forsome reason its telling me that there is no code. anyone have any other ideas other than put a stock ecu back in (that i sold) and check the code with a jumper?

It's easier than checking codes with a stock ECU...

With neptune, put your key on the II position then press your gas pedal to the floor.

The CEL lights will blink
