obd2a and obd2b

im getting the b18 out of mooks old car and i need to put my d16y8 in his. the question i have is are the engine harnesses any different? i have an obd2a p2p and the car it is going into is obd2b. can i just find an obd2b p2p or do i need a conversion harness? what would be the cheapest option? or can i just re-wire it myself?

Ok... There was a little confusion in there...

Is the B18 going into your '98 civic? If so, YOU are OBD2A... The engine harnesses are different... Slightly.

If you need a wiring harness or conversion harness, I ordered mine from Boomslang... They are also located here in St. Louis as well... I asked if they would be willing to meet me so I could pick it up and they were cool about it... If you need it ASAP, call them up and talk to them and see if they are willing to do the same for you...

the b18 is obd1. i was just stating that that was why my motor is coming out of my car and going into mooks old car which is obd2b and the ecu i have is an obd2a p2p

It's "MY" car now. I hate when it's refered as moook's old car. Otherwise the engine harness would only be different at the distributor, iirc. In which case we would just have to rewire that portion. Other than that you will just need the obd2b-obd2a conversion harness. That way I can plug your obd2 ecu into my car.

sorry, joe's car is getting the swap. i guess what my question is what is the difference between obd2a and obd2b. is the the dizzy, engine harness, anything inside the dash? if all it is is in the engine bay, then would we have a problem running an obd2a engine with harness and ecu in a 99-2000 civic without getting the conversion harness?
