who would be interested in built transmissions?

Post by 5thgen »

Like Mike said, he would have to offer something to honda transmissions that isn't already out there.

I would guarantee there is more than enough interest on honda-tech. It makes me wonder why he would go after a small/local style of market.

who would be interested in having his services?

honda-tech : hundreds of people
here : maybe 5

Well.....people would be a lot more interested in a transmission that cost $500 than $5000.

I'd have to know a ballpark price and what I'd be getting for it.

LSD
oem gears?
dog box?
cuff?
final drives?
custom ratios?
custom housings?

His pricing is 900 to 3400.

It is hard to answer a price range if I don't know what I'm getting.

I think you need more specifics before you try to see if there is interest.

Get to know what is prone to fail on d,b,k,h, etc. and see if you (or whomever) can make a reliable part at a reasonable rate.

A little more input here. Unless he is planning on building a totally new case (on a B series anyway), or doing substantial welding, the issue with them holding high HP for an extended period of time will still be there. Do a little searching and you'll find what I'm talking about. It's the clutch housing cracking from parts trying to push away from each other. Granted, this is only on high HP cars that get beaten on.

I don't think Shep's prices are relevant at all. Honda transmission parts are WAY cheaper. I'd say the $945 Shep rebuild is actually more like $450 on a B series. As already stated in the thread, there are already MANY aftermarket hard part providers for Honda transmissions and there are even more people that rebuild transmissions. This will be a VERY hard market to make any money in. People are used to taking their parts and $100-150 and getting a trans built. If this guy is happy making $100-150 on a trans, he'll be fine.
