who would be interested in built transmissions?
to start off a flash back to the early 1990's the 5.0 mustang community was thriving with new found power as they were braking into the 11's in street car form. but they were equiped with a T-5 transmission wich was ill fated as they often could not hold up to the power (previous to the tremic trans) untill rennie chartrand came along and started modifying the T-5 so it could with hold the power. well times have changed and he has asked me to test the territory of building honda trans (ie like a jon shepard of hondas) so as a question to all. who would be interested in having his services? if enough people are interested he will make a go of this!

who would be interested in built transmissions?
would it be any honda transmissions or does he want to stay specific to a motor series i.e. d,b,h, or k series? im currently looking into a lsd for my setup. im just not too sure about messing with any gearing changes.

Would be interesting to see what he can provide for services and the cost of it. Is he talking just services like assembly or some manufactured parts as well? The problem I see is cost, there would be tons of interest if it was a reasonably affordable service.Boosted_da;253147 wrote:to start off a flash back to the early 1990's the 5.0 mustang community was thriving with new found power as they were braking into the 11's in street car form. but they were equiped with a T-5 transmission wich was ill fated as they often could not hold up to the power (previous to the tremic trans) untill rennie chartrand came along and started modifying the T-5 so it could with hold the power. well times have changed and he has asked me to test the territory of building honda trans (ie like a jon shepard of hondas) so as a question to all. who would be interested in having his services? if enough people are interested he will make a go of this!
Currently just a sync'd 1-4 gearset from the handful of quality aftermarket manufacturers is going to run you a few thousand or more... thats just for the parts, add in a final drive, maybe a billet case or handcuff, assembly, etc. Things can add up quick.
Look around national forums for a few minutes and you can see there is alot of people looking for upgraded transmissions.

Chad is correct... I've had a few trannys repaired and rebuilt. Rickles and RyanA normally did the work. I currently have 1 tranny that needs a fresh rebuild before i throw it into the hatch. I would be purchasing the carbon coated synchros and the replacement gears.twkdcd595;253166 wrote:Would be interesting to see what he can provide for services and the cost of it. Y21 trans with Honda OEM LSD = Fun.
And for those of you that thinking a rebuild won't help...
My old B16A Civic hatch...
before the rebuild, I always got 15.3 @ 91mph
after the rebuild with Gearspeed synchros I got 14.8 @ 93mph and didn't change anything to the car, just the trans. Cutting off 1/2 a second brought a smile to my face and was worth the few hundred dollars.
I'm still a neighborhood ASSHOLE!

there are tons of Honda folks out there looking for the 'ultimate' solution in built trans. personally, I'm not to that point yet.

and there are already many many solutions out there. whoever this guy is and if he decides to dump 100k in to getting the ball rolling on something when there are already tons of companys that sell gearsets that are already trusted then he is going to lose a lot of money.
and btw, carbon coated syncros are nothing special. basically no different from a stock syncro. although from all my experience they tend to start making grinds.
