b16a reverse
my civic will not go into reverse at all. I left work today and it was fine. When I got home I went to leave and had no reverse. All the other gears go in and out just fine but reverse will get almost in to the point where it just grinds. Anyone had this problem or now what to do to fix it. All I can think is bent shift fork. Thanks!

make sure your shift linkage isn't hitting up against the exhaust or something when going all the way over. Sometimes something binding up won't allow it to go into gear.
Try GM syncro mesh if its grinding bad.
Hope you get this worked out. Not very common that reverse goes out, lol

will it go into reverse with the car turned off? if so, you have a clutch issue...whether it be the clutch itself or the master/slave cylinder system that actuates it.

no, It will not go into reverse with the car off or anything. i found out just a little while ago that the only way i can get into reverse is hold it back and pop the clutch out and back in fast and it will pop into reverse. it will then stay in reverse but when you go it makes a wierd almost grinding kind of noise...luvmyhondas;233154 wrote:will it go into reverse with the car turned off? if so, you have a clutch issue...whether it be the clutch itself or the master/slave cylinder system that actuates it.

Do you know how much that is? is it a hard repair..? yeah its pretty noisey when the you let out the clutch. and it gets like stuck in reverse so you have to pretty much slam it out of reverse.JDM EM1;233180 wrote:new throw out bearing maybe?

throw out bearing= no more than $40. Installing it requires pulling the trans. I don't think that's the case though, it would be hard to shift ALL gears. You may have a bent linkage, fork, or (outside chance) really badly shot motor mounts.
What chassis and engine combo is this again?

does it go into 1st alright? reverse is driven off of the 1st gear so a problem with one would most likley cause a problem with the other. i would check out your shifter bushings also and make sure there isnt any excessive slop in the shift linkage.
what i usually do to check this sort of thing is to put the car in first, bring the clutch up slowly dont even give it any gas just so the car starts to roll. push the clutch back in fully and stop take it from first to neutral bring the clutch back up, press the clutch back in again, then try putting it in reverse if it doesnt engage then most likely it has something to do with your clutch. ie, the clutch is not being disengaged enough...
