my retarded honda trans pops out of reverse

ok so i have a j1 trans in my 1990 hatch on a b16a. i had a shop instale a quaife in it before i put it in not knowing anything about the trans. they said everything in the trans was good with no probs actually looked newish. well when i put it in it wouldnt go into reverse, well it pops out. so i pulled it back out and took the trans back apart and everything seems fine and u can slick it in when its out of the car but it just doesnt seem to click in when its in the car so i replaced the linkage with hasport same thing

the car has brand new hasport mounts.
has act 6 puck disk
hydro type r flywheel and pressure plate
new axles

ok so when u put it in reverse it never feels like it goes all the way in and when u try to back up it pops out.

need some ideas this is about to drive me crazy

Are you useing a adjustable short throw like a cheap one with the adjustable ball that screws up and down to make the throw shorter or longer?

And we had a problem at our shop at one point a kid came in with the same thing, when shifting to second/fourth and reverse the tranny never fully got the gear and it would pop out or grind if the motor had any torque to it. Come to find out the linkage was like a hair to short, The way we checked it was when it was on the lift someone else was in it and put it in those gears with the bitch pin out I'd slide it off and push on it with a screw driver and it'd click right in.

Not saying this is the car but it's always a possiblity, I'd also talk to the people at that tranny shop again and tell them your gonna go get a second opinion and by the off chance they over looked something and it has a defect I'd make them pay the damage costs of you getting it checked by another person and fix the problem. Now if there happens to be nothing wrong then again your stuck with another bill so its a 50/50 thing

naw its a oem type r shifter

Almost sounds like the reverse synchro spring/synchro/slider is just worn out. Did that get inspected closely? Was the synchro spring still nice and rounded or was it squared off?

i couldnt really tell ya when i took it apar everything looked good but i dont know jak about trans

to tear it apart and fix it shouldnt be too much. depends on what all needs replaced.
