tranny/motor swap....halp!

Post by halogen_17 »

ok i have an 89 civic 4dr project, i swapped in a d16y8, wirings done, car starts, all is good...but!...i cant get a clutch to engage/line up! ive tried different combos with the clutches and tranny that was on the original motor, and the clutches that came with the new motor as well, swapping clutch baskets, pressure plates and what not. i heard from somewhere that a 90-91 civic/crx si tranny and the clutches that go with it will work? has anyone done this swap or know 100% sure what i need?

the tranny/motor that was in the car was a d15??...stock for a 1989 civic 4dr lx. the motor that was put in was from a 1998 civic 2dr ex, d16y8. so far ive been using the 1989 tranny(because its cable). ive been using the clutch basket and pressure plate from the 1998 y8 motor, but when i try and match them together it wont go together and bolt up, there is a gap between the tranny housing and the engine. also the clutch pedal is stiff as a rock and will not move once matched up...obviously its not matched right or something....your thoughts....?

Look at the how many splines are on the tranny and then look at how many are on the clutch. That may help you out a lil bit.

Which flywheel are you using? You'll more than likely have to bolt the 89 flywheel onto the d16y8...and then use the 89 pressure plate / clutch disc on it as well.
