Axle not going into tranny

1997 Civic LX Auto, I have completed the pass side. Axle on pass side popped right out and went back in with just a little push and a click. The driver's side popped out just like the pass but the new one will not go in all the way no matter how hard I push. Things I have tried...

-laid the new and old side-by-side and they are the same (length, part sizes, spline#, etc...)

-double checked part number

-tried to insert the old axle and it will not go in either

-i put my finger into the receiving hole, sounds dirty huh, and there is nothing obviously in the way. The inner most spline ring has a bit of play in it.

-It goes in far enough that I can spin the pass side and the driver side will spin, it will just not go in that last 3/4 in.

I have spent the last 45 minutes pushing, giggling, yelling, and hoping, any suggestions? Thanks.

Well considering that was 3 months ago, I hope he got in by now. No human can last that long.... lawl

It eventually went in. I went back and did everything by the book and it still did not fully go into the tranny. I took a 2x4 and a hammer and firmly, but carefully, tapped the axle nut and it went in.

Only 4 more Wednesday breaks to go.
