update:
i set aside my hole day sunday to work on my car. oil change bleed the cooling system etc. the shifter being on that list as well. what i found was astonishing; the hasport shift linkage i bought was jank the u joint looking piece next to the tranny where the bitch pin is located was was very sloppy i.e. you could rotate it upwords of quarter of an inch in either direction, quarter of an inch down there equates to about 3-4 inch of play while in gear. unhappy with the quality of the parts as i was yesterday, today when i called them they said yeah its no problem just send it to us and we will fix it or replace it and send it out the same day. So now i have to take off the whole linkage and spend my own money to ship it out to them, frustrating as it sounds i will just be happy to be able to shift it normally.

The plastic washer pieces basically gave you all this trouble.

had the same problem in my hatch but it was where the linkage met the shifter, once side was broke but the other was attatched still by the bolt, the little counter weight or whatever it is on the end was haning down and would ping on my exhaust when i went for fith or reverse
