bump for you, I would like to know as well.
I need to get the vss gear off the stock diff becuase apparently you can not get them any other way (including buying them new)... but the damn bearing is in the way. It is a total pita and the only thing holding me up from getting my tranny together.

i bought a pulley puller from autozone, then grinded the hooks down so they were damn near flat and able to squeeze between the vss and the bearing... came right off.

I bought a bearing seperator.......you need at least a quarter inch of space to get one of those in there.
Most cost effective thing was a small torch......helped with the vss gear quite a bit for me. I just tapped around the gear evenly and it pretty much came off. The bearing above it was still on there so I just tapped it over the bearing too.
Then I just bought new bearings (I dented one with a hammer, doh).

your vss gear cleared he bearing? I am guessing this was a roller bearing, cause there is no way I am clearing my taper bearing.5thgen;52961 wrote:I bought a bearing seperator.......you need at least a quarter inch of space to get one of those in there.

I dont have enough room between the bearing and gear to get a puller in there. I dont have a bearing seperator or know anyone with one but I am not sure if I could even get it in there if I did either.

You must not be talking about the same transmission... the vss gear in my tranny was barely bigger than the bearing itself... no slipping it off over the bearing... you must take it off first.5thgen;52961 wrote:I bought a bearing seperator.......you need at least a quarter inch of space to get one of those in there.

you can borrow my modified pulley puller if you want. it is what we used to take the sunuvabitch off.twkdcd595;52965 wrote:your vss gear cleared he bearing? I am guessing this was a roller bearing, cause there is no way I am clearing my taper bearing.

it was a ls tranny......it was barely bigger than the bearing. I still had to tap it onto and off of the bearing.thsmrtone1;52978 wrote:You must not be talking about the same transmission... the vss gear in my tranny was barely bigger than the bearing itself... no slipping it off over the bearing... you must take it off first.
