Clutch questions???

Post by slow del sol »

The clutch pedal on my 97 del sol (d16y7, 5speed) has hardly any free play. It disengages in the first 2 inches of pedal movement, is there an adjustment for this or is it time for clutch replacement? It has not been slipping or chattering or anything, it is just that the engage/disengage point is so high in the pedal it makes it uncomfortable on the left leg.

behind the clutch pedal is a 12mm nut loosin it and screw the bar to the pedal a few threads this will give the clutch some pedal play and engage further off the floor. Only give the clutch minor play cause to much play and the further the engagement point goes from the floor and could start slipping the clutch even though it isn't bad.

That sounds easy enough to adjust. Mine is all the way at the top end of the pedal though, so does that mean that the clutch is worn and adjusting it down would just cause slipping? Hydro.

You can try adjusting it but how many miles on the clutch. If theres alot of pedal play then screw the bar twords the fire wall and if there isn't any play then the pressure plate may be worn, just cause the clutch doesn't slip doesn't mean there isn't something that couldn't be bad. Also have you tried bleeding it.

I'll try adjusting it towards the floor tommorow. It has almost 99K miles, it has been driven easy, it was my father in laws car and he drove it like the old man he is. What is the "normal" life expectancy of a clutch? No, I have not tried to do anything to it yet just trying to figure out what to try first.

why doesn't honda teach people anything, yes ask rob I did it to his car tested it and it was great but slipped a tad then I re-adjusted it and it worked way better then it ever had the whole time he had that car.

Silverstreak and N2hifi can vouch you can adjust a hydro pedal.

I'll see what I can do tommorow and let ya know if I need any more help. My usual problem is not breaking something else in the process of fixing the first problem. Thanks for the info!
