I have a 96 integra LS that seems normal and runs around 3200 rpms @80mph on the highway and the thing I dont understand is my crx with an LS (cable tranny) runs at like 4,000 rpms@ 80. why is that. is it really geared that much lower or is something wrong?

whats a longer geared tranny that will bolt up to a b18a that would not cost a fortune and would be easier to find? should I look into converting to hydro? the car will be turbo within 2 months. so this tranny seems like a bad combo, but I may be wrong.

hmm I am sort of confused, So I have the longest geared cable tranny, or is there another one that would work better for me. Id hate to be boosting when I am cruising at 65 on the highway, not that it wouldnt be nice its just that it cant be good for the motor.

I think the LS is the longest gear'd b-series tranny but it sounds like you have the SiR tranny for some reason which is the shortest. Look up the specs on the Sir, RS, and LS tranny and see which one has the tallest gears but I'm sure the order I explained them in went shortest to longest.

LS and RS is the same tranny corey.

it sounds like you do have an SiR or XSi tranny tho, not an LS. My LS sits at 3000 going 60 and @ 32-3400 or so at 80 (can't remember exactly, but nowhere near 4000). While it's tempting to trade, I like my ls tranny, sure it sucks off the line, but for highway driving its great, and its there and ready if i do boost the motor. so I'll hold onto it.

open the hood and look down at the serial tag on the tranny(should be pretty close to where you see your engine code on the block)
it will tell you your tranny code, BUT it will also tell you what year your transmission is.
Gold tag with no bar code = 90-91
white tag with a bar code = 92-93

Here's mine (a little scratched up, but you get the idea):

the input shaft splines are different between the two, the 90-91 uses the small staft, and the 92-93 uses the large shaft like the 94+ trannies. this will help deteemine what trannies you are looking for as far as a replacement (if you switch to the other shaft, you will have to change the clutch since the clutches are different)

So i am going to assume your new to working on cars and building them.

The LS tranny is the longest gearing available for b series motors, Just be lucky you don't have a b16 tranny like the majority of us do, if your complaining about turning 4k at 80. My car runs 3700 at 60 on the hwy.

Then for your second statement about boosting while in 5th gear that wont be a issue because you wont be at 100% throttle only about 30% so you will never create boost.
