B18B1 questions

Post by Andrew »

Hey guys, i hate to make a thread i feel like an idiot. haha

Okay so heres the deal, im building a bottom end for my hatch. Goal is
400-450whp, stock sleeves should be able to handle this from the research ive done.

I plan on using Eagle rods, and Wiseco pistons, 9.3:1 compression ratio. 81.50mm bore.

Basically a kit from Real ST performance. Rings, wrist pins, and ARP rod bolts are included.

I guess my only questions are, what crank and rod bearings should i use? ACL? OEM? Stay with an OEM headgasket? Any input is welcome and encouraged want all my research done before I spent money.

Who in St. Louis tunes ostrich?

Also what machine shops in the area offer machining along with assembly? If it was a stock LS id put it together myself, I built one for my integra, but on a high HP semi high dollar engine I dont wanna risk anything.

I don't know of anyone that is a ectune tuner locally.....I think maybe kentucky somewhere is the closest place.

Ectune is great software...but the main developer is really bad with keeping up with giving people licenses. Sad to say development is pretty much dying for it.

Get your bearings based on desired clearance. I would go on the loose side before I went to the tight side. I think I was shooting for .0015 on 1,2,4,5 main caps....and about .0018 on #3. You could take apart the block and measure your current bearings and see what clearances it gives you. The block should have your bearing stamps for the main caps....and the crank should have stamps for the rods.

On 400 whp I would look into going at least .0040" piston to wall clearance. You might call wiseco and ask them about this. I think their clearance spec (bore size) is built into the piston @ .0025, which is pretty tight.

Basically wiseco's 81.5mm bore callout is 3.209", which more than likely means their piston is about 3.2065". When you take your block to the machine shop, they can cut your cylinders to what you want (after you know the true piston diameter). So say the pistons were 3.2065....I would want my cylinders cut to 3.2105.

^ i agree with the above. I've been looking around cause i plan on doing this too and from what i've seen, stock crank is good for the power. Sleeves should be ok but that's on the edge. Also eeryone recomends OEM over everything else
