1997 Integra GSR Overheating at idle.

Post by Cman46290 »

I wanted to get some opinions on this... my car just started overheating at idle only if i sit for a few minutes... and usually is more relevant/happens quicker with the AC on....

First things first... i checked coolant level.. which is fine.... as well as my first instinct of the cooling fan not working.... and both fans are working... and turning on... yet it will still overheat at idle.

As soon as i start driving... the temp drops to operating/normal temperature immediately...

i was thinking maybe the water pump starting to go out... or even a radiator flow issue... but havent dug too far into it to really check...

Anyone have any ideas where to start?

Thanks gentlemen~

if the thermostat was stuck... it would either not get to operating temp at all(stuck open)... or it would overheat all the time(stuck closed).....

Im gunna take a good look at it tonight... burp te cooling system... and so on... and hope its something easy...

Thanks for the response~

Check the following(know you have some already, this is just a basic list);
1. coolant leak
2. low level of coolant
3. bad thermostat
4. water pump malfunctioning
5. clog radiator
6. bad radiator cap
7. fan not working properly

yeah im gunna look at the coolant again tonight.. and burp any air pockets out of there... and check everything over... not sure how id be able to tell if the water pump was starting to go bad just by visually looking at it...

I also got the though of maybe a head gasket... but i havent lost coolant from what i can tell... ill take a good look at the oil tonight too...make sure it isnt milky at all... bt i havent lost any performance really... and i havent smelled any coolant burning... and i havent seen any white smoke from the exhaust...so i doubt thats it.. but ill give her a good once over tonight... and advise my findings.
