vtec question

So when I bought this y8 motor it had a double vtec solinoid on it and I was wandering if that actually does anything like i-vtec or does it even function on the motor?

Sounds like a D16Y5 VTEC solenoid. D16Y5's have 3-Stage VTEC which is a combination of VTEC-E and VTEC. You would need a D16Y5 cylinder head and ECU for it to work properly.
