help* need advice

Post by overboost7845 »

I recently bought a engine from someone on Craigslist for 1000. The ad said it ran perfect when pulled but it has a rod knock at 2500rpm. I still have the oil filter that came on the engine when I bought it (it had bearing material inside it) I wanted to use the filter as evidence of the rod knock and take him to court......... I'm also debating on if I should just keep rolling it until it knocks loud since its already screwed and only seems to knock at 2500 rpm. Or if I should just pull it now?

Sorry to hear about the motor, that is what I always fear in dealing with CL. You can try for small claims court, but honestly in all the time and money you would have to put i, it wont be worth it if you win.

One test I usually do when buying a motor from an unknown source is pay for an oil change and inspect the oil. If its to old/to new or has metal in it I pass. I also cut the old oil filter with a can opener(the side cut kind) and look for metal shavings. I know hte info is to late now, but it might help you moving on. Also PM Rickles8099 he might be able to get you in for a rebuild. His turn around is usually pretty good.

Isn't court cost about 150.00 and really im not that concerned about time. It took me like 50 hours to do this swap (na3000gt>tt) and now that its done and I'm going to have to take it all part, use my old engine back, plus play Russian roylette . I payed good money for reliable horsepower.
