my first honda engine build

Post by 92hatch »

Car is a 1996 civic ex. This is my daily driven car and its smoking and burning oil. So I picked up a d16y8 block for next to nothing. Block is good and crank is good. Now the question is where to go from here. Debating on running a turbo setup with it or not. From what I've read the y8 doesn't get good oil flow. What is everyone's recommendations on piston/rod setups. Looking for vest bang for your buck without spending a shit ton, remember this will be a daily driver. Also I do not have a garage, so I need recommendations on engine builders.

I prefer the d16z* for engine builds, but the Y will work, but tends to spin bearings. I would recommend no matter what combo you go with get ARP rod, main and head studs. If you want to stay cheap and still have fun with a turbo, go for the standard vitara piston setup. you can make descent power for not to much money.

PM stolle or Rickles8099 for assembling the engine, they both do good work and are fairly priced.

EDIT: I might have some left over D series parts you can have for free if you come pick them up in NOCO. Let me dig around to see what I have and I will PM you.

a vitara setup is probably the best bang for the buck setup if your going to boost it. i also would suggest rick(Rickles8099) he does great work.
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...
