How to store an engine block

Post by Waffles »

So while looking for blocks i have noticed that everyone just throws them on a shelf and forgets about them, so here are a few quick steps for storing your bare block.

1. Coat the cylinder walls with assembly lube.
2. put the block into a trash bag
3. ad 1-2 lbs of rice
4. remove as much air out of the bag as you can
5. Seal the bag.

Helpful little tip: To get all the air out you can, use a shop vac. Once you get the air out, twist the bag tightly shut then flip that end over itself and zip tie or rubber band it. Vacuum packed for freshness....

Marine fogging oil is also a good alternative to assembly lube. Comes in an aerosol can and is made for storing a boat in humid environments.

what about those big heavy vinyl bags you store pillows and blankets in, they already have a valve for vacuum sealing in the freshness!
