he doesnt want to use "random" parts. he is researching and trying to figure out the best solution to meet his goals, which is far more than some other members of the community do. instead of being a dick, why not give a legitimate reason as to why it will/wont work. from what ive read and seen there is no reason why it wont work. maybe he wants to have a fresh bottom end rather than just buying a used ls longblock that may or may not have problems. in all honesty id rather spend a little more $$$ and have a fresh bottom end than just buy a used engine and hope nothing goes wrong anytime soon
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

It's my understanding that he's talking about taking apart his running engine to put the pistons in a B18B1 block. I'm not trying to be a dick but how does that make any sense? He seems pretty new to putting an engine together so this doesn't sound like the best of ideas for his situation. Especially since he's on a budget. And I don't think he realizes what this is going to cost him to put together.

okay, okay. this is my delima. the engine i have has fried rings. this is an excuse to build something. i want to use the resources i have at hand to the fullest. the b18a pistons i have are no good due to pitting on the skirts. i did calculations on achieving my goals to get the cr i want. i do not want a higher cr, i want a 9.0:1-9.5:1 cr. i can not do that with the ls rods. if i use the b16 rods and pistons it will give me what cr i want rather than the 11.7 cr from the ls rods w/b16 pistons. all at the same time i want to ensure all good specs for the main bearings and rod bearings. i dont want to take any short cuts and say HEY THOSE BEARINGS SHOULD BE GOOD! no, i want to eliminate any possible problems from occuring. basically this will be a lsv with the ls crank with the b16 rods and pistons. all b series parts. new parts will include:
oem headgasket
oem timing belt w/ wp
clevite rod and main bearings
still deciding company for the piston rings
ARP headstuds and rod bolts
everything will be brand new. pretty much an overhaul.

lets not forget u need to plug the oil feed, add an oil line to the head, add either sandwich adapter or fittings.
do u realize u need a ls hg?
gsr timing belt/water pump?
npr rings are fine if not oem.
i know someone that has countless ls rods and pistons..............
