If your manually trying to do compression calculations, you are wasting your time. someone has built a calculator.

http://www.zealautowerks.com/bseries.html

there is also a free android one.

so does anyone know what the combustion chamber volume is at TDC on a b18a1?
45cc is the head volume itself (non-milled).

i could really get into this deep. however, a lil bit of googling would yield u alot of info.

its in your best interest to use b16(vtec) bearings with the ls build. NO u cannot use the b16 rotating in the ls. deck height is 8mm smaller on the blocks. use ls block, ls rotating with the build. use the b16 bearings and arp rod bolts in the ls rods. 8mm ones go right in.

well if you want to go really in depth go ahead, it might help me figure things out. i have googled alot and not found too much info. my plans are to use the b16 rods and pistons with the ls crank to achieve the 9.0:1 cr instead of using the ls rods w/b16 pistons and getting an 11.7:1 cr. the ls pistons i have are toast. thats why i want to use the b16 pistons and try to work with what ive got. the bearings i would be using are the clevite 77 p series.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If he used the b16 crank, then yeah, it'd put the compression ratio really low. What you gain in compression from the head and pistons, you lose in the .1" rod difference.

LS motors come in stock at 9.2 ...... if it does drop to 9.0 that is not bad.

This thread makes my head hurt. I really don't understand why you're trying to build an engine with random OEM parts. For the money you'll spend getting it together, you could buy a complete B18B1 longblock, add ARP's and be done without the headache.
