Coolant in Oil...

Post by Uncle_Willie »

Car:1992 Civic DX Sedan, D15B VTEC

Last Friday I noticed an oil leak on my car. It looked like it was leaking quite a bit but I had to take a trip to Osage beach(45 mile drive). Filled it up with oil(3/4 of a quart low in slightly over 1k miles on that oil change) When i got there i checked the oil again, it was 100% full. And then when I got home i checked it and it was still full....although i noticed the oil was really milky looking. Immediately I knew it had blown a head gasket. I didnt start the car again before i tore it apart. After getting the head off I didnt see any issues with the head gasket...

I checked the coolant I had drained from the car and there was no Oil in it. But then I checked the oil I had drained and it had no coolant in it, which confused me. I looked the head over for cracks and found nothing. So I cleaned everything the best that I could and then installed a new Felpro MLS gasket. Reassymbled everything, filled with new oil and coolant, and then started it and let it run for 20 minutes or so. Checked the oil and it looked perfect. Drove it about 25 miles and checked again, still perfect.

I drove the car all week with no issues, and the oil leak had stopped. Then decided to check my oil yesterday just to find my oil looking milky again.

It runs at perfect operating Temperature, no white smoke(or at least from what i can see while im driving), Still full of coolant(have never had to add any). Anybody have any ideas of what the problem is?

Random thought. Was it raining at all during this time? Could be pulling moisture in from somewhere. Oil cap, a leaky valve cover or pan gasket.

Now that you mention it it rained the night before that and it has a tiny leak from the oil pan....
