b18b1 funny lope to it

Post by JohnnyChon »

I'm curious as to what would make my motor have a lope to it other than it being cammed...as far as I know it's a stock cam in the head. Timing is set correct. Both cams are set to the top. Does the ls b18 have a lope to it stock?

How would low coolant affect the quality of idle?

Because coolant goes through the idle air control valve. When hondas with that setup are low on coolant or if there is an air pocket in there, it will cause irratic idle.

This is how you can narrow it down between IACV (idle air control valve) and the FITV (fast idle thermal valve).

There are up to 2 holes in the throttle body. Take your intake off and look in there.

They will look similar to this:

See the 2 oval holes on the left side? The top hole leads to the iacv, and the bottom hole to the fitv. Cover the holes up one at a time to see what results in a smoother idle. When you cover the top(iacv) hole, your idle will probably drop....but usually stays running around 400-600rpm.

Once you narrow it down, you can chase the problem from there.
