I think he has a D15B8 in a CRX, which that engine never came in from the factory. So running the VIN on the car would do him no good. Unfortunitly the D15B8 never came with a VIN tag either, so there is no way to figure the year of the engine by VIN.

However, if you can post the complete engine code (i.e. D15B8-XXXXXXX) I can tell you what model year the engine is from.

There should be a year stamped in the head, I know both of my motors have it.

Edit: On the front of the head between the valve cover and header, i think on your left when your looking at it

Unfortunately, if the head has ever been swapped then it does no good for him. He needs to know the year of the block. Which the engine code will tell.

the origional owner said the engine came out of a 95 which has already been stated. all i need to know is how many valve reliefs a 95 d15b8 has. i know how to swap the damn head. its just i dont want to do a headgasket install for nothing.

this is all the info i needed. 8 or 16...

i think you would be better in the long run, just to source a complete engine like a d16a6, z6, y8, y7 or even a d15b7. especially if your planning on putting a turbo on or any other performance enhancements. imho, i would not recommend doing a mini-me on anything the work/money is not worth the return, even more so since your gonna be doing it on a d15b8 that you dont even know its possible to put a 16 valve head on in the first place. swap in a complete engine and keep the b8 on hand as a spare.
