okay im tired of my 70 hp turd under my hood. im thnkin on mini me'ing it. my question is. ive heard that certain years came with 4 valve reliefs and certain ones came with 2. ie: 8 valve engine. i cant find anything on what years had what. so id like to know before tearing everything down for nothing. any help?

Sorry if I missed something, but if your wanting to do a mini me swap what does the current amount of valves have to do anything?

Some b8's came with pistons that didn't have valve reliefs for 16 valves IIRC

Edit: say his only had reliefs for 8 valves, a 16 valve head couldn't be used because the valves would hit the piston, causing damage to the head and pistons.

From what reading ive done in the last 5 minutes to my understanding they had an 8 valve b8 and a 16 valve b8 but both engines came with pistons with 16 valve reliefs. Nobody seems to be 100% sure though. I would buy everything and have it ready, then pull the head and check for sure. If it has 16 do it, if it only has 8 then I guess you can chalk it up as a failed experiment lol

Which is why I said pull the valve cover lol, 16 valves there you got the reliefs if not scrap that shit buy an actual d15b, d16z6, d16y8 whatever get your conversion harness on and ecu and goto town.

Only way to know for sure is to pull the head. The b8 that was originally in my 94 cx was an 8-valve but had 16 reliefs.

No pull the valve cover there will show if its 16v why yank the head if there isn't 4 reliefs it wouldn't have 16v and be eatting 8 valves and 4 pistons for lunch lol

no its the pistons corey. all b8's are 8 valve just like the crx hf. but certain years had 16 valve pistons with an 8 valve head. the engine came out of a 95 aparently.

Run the VIN to check the year, i read somewhere last night that the 92-93 had 8 and the 94-95 had 16.
