Has anyone had problems running a TD-84 (obd-2b b16) dizzy on a chipped obd-1 ecu?
Here's the story,
I swapped in a JDM B16a into my hatch and all went well. The motor was in an EM1 so it had the newer dizzy (newish unit from Distributor King) with the single large 10pin plug, so I depinned the plug and installed the 8pin and 2pin connectors and thought all was good.
I went to fire it up and it runs rough , idles low and throws a code "9" (CLY sensor). So I do the tests per 11-62 of the service manual and the sensor reads the correct resistance and is not shorted to ground. I also recheck for continuity from the ecu all way to the sensor in the dizzy and all good, WTF.
The service manual says bad ECU at this point, but it has been running fine with my y8 for years. I also tried both the b16 and y8 chips and same deal.
Next I swapped out the guts inside the dizzy w/ one that I had from a known working d-series dizzy and know it cranks but no start (no spark at all)
Still haven't tested the coil or ignitor, but the wiring was brittle in the old dizzy so I may have shorted something out.
This was late last night and I was so pissed I went in the house and ordered a new obd-1 dizzy (td-44u), hope that takes care of it.
Any thoughts?

I got my new aftermarket Richporter distributor in today and the code "9" is gone but now have a code "8" for the TDC sensor. Seems like all these aftermarket dizzys are junk. Gonna try to get my money back.
Any one got a good working OEM b-vtec dizzy they are willing to part with?

no they are not junk. your first mistake was screwing with deppining it. secondly that code 9 is a essentially a dummy code that means nothing. 3rdly, good luck.

disregard,
it was a connection issue in the 8-pin plug, cleaned the terminals and applied some dielectric grease and the code "8" went away
