Hey guys
Want to enlighten you with my problem and see what other opinions you may have.
My engine is a 2000 B18C1. The car was burning oil very bad. We took the head off and got the head redone by a machine shop, with new vavle seals and stock internals.
Installed the head, new gaskets, new Header, and Skunk2 IM.
We got the car goin, purrs like a kitten at idle. seems to drive fine. No smoking. The car only smokes a little bit when its in higher RPMS once it hits the powerband. We seems to still be losing alot of oil over the course of 500 miles.
We checked compression it seems good. only 20 down in one cylinder, (still in spec!). we triple checked timing. We adjusted valves.
Was talking with some friends, wondering where my oil is going...
We are going back now and retorquing everything.
and possibly this -
I was told to disconnect the rubber hose from the valve cover to the intake tube. replace with mini filters.
And install an Oil Catch can. I was told "blow by" could be whats causing the smoke from this Skunk2 IM.
What do you guys think? any other Ideas?
I'm no mecanich so anything would help. thanks!

How much oil have you lost in 500 miles? I know it's probably a silly question, but any oil leaks? Is the PCV valve installed properly and working?
Don't remove the slash-cut metal tube connecting the valve cover to the intake arm. When air passes through the intake arm, past the slash-cut tube and to the throttle body/intake manifold, a vacuum is created to help blow-by gases escape. Just putting a filter on the end of the valve cover is only going to vent the gases to the atmosphere without the help of vacuum. As long as your PCV system is installed and working properly with the S2 manifold, that tube is nothing to worry about. And from the sound of things, you have a pretty stock setup. I don't see a reason to add a catch can.

The way I have always understood compression tests is that you should never have a difference of more than 10lbs between two cylinders. If your down 20lbs on one that would probably be your issue. What is the mileage on the block? And at high rpms is it putting out blue smoke? And in that 500 miles was that just typical daily driving or running it hard?
And if you just had the head redone there probably should have been a certain amount of miles you should have put on it before taking to high rpms( I may be wrong on that) I would suggest taking it to a shop and having a leakdown test performed.

28 psi is the maximum variation. So he is still within spec.Uncle_Willie;271294 wrote:The way I have always understood compression tests is that you should never have a difference of more than 10lbs between two cylinders. It was daily drivin for about 500 miles. After the rebuild. The block has about 80k miles. Higher RPMS I mean probably around 3.5k-4.5k I may have gotten it higher once or twice.
I was adding about a quart a week before the rebuild.
This time, within one week (500 miles), I had lost about 3 Quarts.
Spark plugs are dry, just a little black.
There was a small oil leak, but only a few drips of oil, from my vtec solinoid seal to the head. I already ordered a new seal. But doesn't look to have leaked much oil from there. We haven't seen any other leaks.
The stock PCV set up is still in there. I just ran a longer hose to it, from the IM.
My car will smoke if u hit the powerband around the RPMS I listed above. It's not white smoke. I kinda got scared to drive it, I don't want to ruin anything in the head.

Wow, that's definitely a lot of oil consumption. I would suggest repairing the oil leak and look for others. Then do a leak-down test and see what the results are.

we are in the process of retourqing everything now. replacing that vtec seal. Gonna do another compression test and do a leak down. I'll post my results. May be a week or so waiting on parts.
Could it be possible a its the valve seals? Button Machine shop installed them. Wonder if he did it right... LOL.
Also My buddy is the one adjusting valves. Is it possible to burn that much oil if they are not adjusted right? The engine doesn't tick or anything. Purs like a kitten.

what about oil rings on the pistons? He would still have compression of the compression rings were good... and wouldnt show up if the oil rings were bad...
I agree.. leak down test... and go from there.
