Del Sol wont start

Post by Uncle_Willie »

One of my buddies bought an ek with a gsr swap a while back, he didnt like the civic so he bought a Del Sol Si shell to put the swap in. He had another guy do all the work on the swap in trade for some Honda parts. After the swap was finished he went to drive it to a local exhaust shop to have the exhaust welded up.

He told me it drove fine but if you get on it at all it just falls flat on its face, I havent looked into that issue yet. But while he was driving it started losing power until finally it left him stranded on the side of the highway. He towed it to the shop with a truck and thats where it sits as of now.

When you turn the key on the only light on the dash that comes on is the Brake light, fuel pump doesnt turn on, wont turn over. Tried the battery out of my car and got nothing. Took his ecu out and tried my P72 and got the same results. I noticed the alternator had not even been hooked up(obd2a plug was in the alternator with wires hanging out and obd1 plug was still on the harness:wtf:). And the rest of the wiring looked like a mess as well.

Im gonna go back tomorrow and check all the grounds, fuses, and wiring connections. Im also gonna try and get the car somewhere where i can get the alternator wired up properly. Judging by the way the fuel pump doesnt come on i was thinking maybe the main relay was bad or something.

Anybody else have any ideas what to check while im there?

You have the right idea. Check all the grounds. Repair any wiring that isn't done properly. Check and fix any DTCs. The basics that you should always start with first.

Good deal, ill go ahead and check all the relays. There were two plugs under the dash on the driver side that werent plugged into anything. I plugged one of them up and the other i couldnt even find where it went.

How hard is it to remove an engine harness with the motor still in the car? Ive removed them with the engine out but never with the engine in. I figure ill go through and solder/heat shrink everything that isnt done. By looking at the rest of the work I assume it probably has some twisted together wires with electrical tape holding shit together. And i know there were some broken wires i saw on the engine harness. Shit is a mess, i hate seeing poorly done swaps.

Went out to look at the car tonight. Checked every fuse in the car, 3 were blown. Replaced all 3. One was the fuse labeled Backup under the hood. The other 2 were under the dash but i didnt have a fuse diagram to see what they were. All the fuses in the engine bay fusebox had power going to both sides of the fuse, that confused the hell out of me.

Ran power directly to the starter and got nothing, the starter worked perfect before, im afraid some things have been fried by some shitty wiring. Ran out of light before we could start testing relays under the dash

Here are a couple pics of the wiring situation inside the engine bay...plus the brake/fuel lines just laying in there.
