CRX GS-R no vtec

Post by crxbrad »

Ok. I'm sure people have seen my car. I've decided to try to get it runnin and reliable.
I'm pretty sure I just need to get the vtec wiring correct.(if it's wrong..?)
When I was doing the swap, I did all kinds of forum searching and googling....
I found that the B18C1 does not have a vtec oil pressure switch as the B16 and B18C5 do. So I read that you are to tap the vtec oil pressure switch wire into the vtec solenoid wire. So that's what I did, and I'm pretty sure the car is not hitting vtec. And it cuts out if I give it full throttle. Anything under full throttle runs fine. So I untapped the vtec oil pressure switch wire from the solenoid wiring and now it does not cut out at full throttle. As far as I remember haha
I have not drivin it in a while.
All other vtec wiring is wired. vtec solenoid and knock sensor
I'm using a P28 w/Hondata and obd0-obd1 conversion harness w/vtec wires pre ready

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your p28 chipped what's the redline are you running the stock sohc map. Your conversion harness should have the vtec wires and 4 wire o2 on it once wired it should be fine. Is the crx dx si hf more info is needed

I don't know where you found that the B18C1 doesn't have a Valve Timing Oil Pressure Switch. It does and needs to be wired properly to work. Run the input wires as indicated below into your OBD0 harness. Ground goes to the thermostat housing.

Here's a pic of no vtec oil pressure switch.

Where that sensor would normally be, there's nothing. And no it's not just missing. There is no threading for a sensor to go in. I read that on hondtech. And I looked back at the info and found that the B18C is the one w/out the oil pressure switch sensor. Maybe I have a B18C head. Idk..?

Looks like you have a vtec solenoid or head off a jdm engine

from the FFSquad site:
Katman wrote:Also, if you're dropping in a JDM engine, these motors do not have a VTEC Pressure Switch (VTPS). So, you'll have to perform a small wiring fix for this or swap out the JDM VTEC Solenoid (VTS) with that of a U.S. VTS. The VTPS has a 2 wire plug (positive & ground), the VTS has 1 signal wire.

VTPS FIX: Take the power wire for the VTPS and splice it into the VTS wire, then take the VTPS ground wire and ground it to the actual body of the VTEC Solenoid - that's it! If done correctly, your ecu will not throw a check engine light for code 22 (VTPS). If you wind up using a JDM OBD2 ecu, you do not need to perform this VTPS fix, because the JDM OBD2 ecu doesn't look for a VTPS.

Also, I tried to get the vtec working tonight...I connected the wire that is supposed to be the oil pressure switch wire to the vtec solenoid wire. That did nothing.
I then tried grounding all three of the ground wires in the conversion harness. This did nothing.
Here's what I have. It's a Zerg conversion harnessImage.
Sorry. This is all I could get for a pic
What do I need to do different...?!
