93 del sol timing belt broke
So finally got all the little bugs fixed on the new to me del sol. Tune up new alternator etc. Took it out for a test drive ran great. Turn around to head back home, and the car dies. Crank and crank.. nothing. Spray ether in throttle body. Nothing. Take distributor cap off and crank it and the rotors not turning. Look in the oil cap and crank. Valve train doesnt move. So 99% sure that timing belt is broke. Lol. So i did a little research and looks like my 1.6 is an interference motor. Fml. So known my luck valves and pistons are probly trashed. I havent dug into it yet. But im going to this week. So if thats the case anyone suggest a place to get a new motor? I was thinkn a place like 5 star. I basically just want a new engine i can set in. Nothin fancy as im just gona drive it back and forth to work. Of course like anyone else im lookng for the cheapest but best way of going about it. Will be doing labor myself. So any opinions on where to get a motor? Thanks

Sometimes you can get lucky and not damage the valvetrain. If it were me, I would pick up a timing belt from an auto parts store, throw it on and see if it'll start up. If at that point it doesn't start or it has low compression, I would look for an new engine.

I talked to a.friend about this and he said i.could use his boroscope. So hopefully everything checks out and i can just put a belt on. Also talked to a guy at work thats ben daily driving crx's for years and he said the same thing you guys did. Thats its happened to him a few times and everything was fine. When i cranked it there was no noise and cranked freely so hopefully i got lucky.
