strange issue 05 s2000

Post by ryansDc5 »

Alright so lately, my s2000 has been I guess cutting out at 3-4k rpms nowhere else. It just stops then pops and comes back in a split second. Well today, twice actually, I tried to start and all it would do is just turn over, it wouldn't start. The only time it would attempt to start was if i would put the gas pedal to the floor, but even then it would sound like a tractor and it would misfire like crazy until it finally caught, then it sounded and ran normal.

Motor has 30k miles, oil changed every 2k miles, only engine mods are 70mm test pipe and 70mm exhaust. I do have a CEL but that is just for catalytic inefficiency, which is normal because I do not have a cat.

Anyways, any idea would help. Maybe my air/fuel is off because of my exhaust, maybe the gas boiled today in the heat? I don't know.

Plug, wire, bad gas, timing belt jump a tooth?(do they even have belts in s2k)

Maybe the wire isn't fully seated on the spark plug? Idk these are just common things you can check before dumping money into it. I highly doubt your cat code is even related.

You need to pull the codes again. I bet there is more then just a catalytic inefficiency code now. If the car was really misfiring, it will store a code and you'll never know it since the CEL is already on due to the secondary O2 sensor reading. This will tell you exactly what needs to be fixed. Post what code or codes you find.
